Heresy & Heroes

A quick update and some very bad photography regarding the work I’m doing on my second squad of Tactical Space Marines for my Mortifactors force. it’s five down, five to go, and yes, that is a rubbish/garbage bag that I’m using as a backdrop there – I’m on holiday at the moment so my usual resources aren’t to hand.

Is this how I spend my holiday? Well, not typically, no. But then it’s not like I’ve gone to Rome or Barcelona or anything. I’m taking a few days to unwind and help out my family back in rural South Oxfordshire and, well, there ain’t a lot to do here. Besides, what’s better for unwinding from a very, very busy time at work than with countryside walks, a few pints of real ale in the sunshine and painting some death-obsessed super soldiers from the 41st Millennium? Exactly.

These are taking about eight or more solid hours a piece to complete so moving through them is slow (I’m not the quickest of painters). Thankfully, it’s been very quiet here so I’ve had a bit of a chance to plough through them. These were the models that I said I would work on piecemeal but, to be honest, that just doesn’t suit me. In the few weeks since I made that declaration, I did almost nothing. True, the Contemptor took up a big part of my hobby efforts over that time, but I had no drive. I am now accepting that I need defined projects. I need to be able to say ‘I am painting this now, and that next, and this after that’ or I just flake out.

The pride and joy from these first five tactical marines is my Multi Melta wielding heavy weapons specialist. I showed it off before but now that it’s painted, it looks a tad better. Should get some vehicles quaking in their boots (or tracks/wheels) anyway.

Here are a couple more pictures. When I’ve got the whole squad together, and when I’m back in the world of good cameras and non-disposable backdrops, I shall take more pictures. I just wanted you to know that I’ve not been resting on my laurels while convalescing in the countryside. Here are a couple more snaps though of bolter-wielding marines.

Oh, and this is Tom (I actually tend to refer to him as ‘Ratbag’ or ‘Mr Grumpy’). He’s been keeping me company while I paint and occasionally distracting me to demand food. Everyone likes cat pictures, right? 😉
