For my very first proper post here, I would like to present to you my Mortifactors Tactical Squad. Their Veteran Sgt is in the pipeline (something to do over Christmas) but if I do him justice, he’ll get his own post. So, it looks like I’m starting a Mortifactors army.
This is not what I had intended. The last army I finished was 2000pts of Grey Knights and when I was done, I was actually looking forward to trying some different things. I’m not the greatest of painters, but I like to test myself and learn new things so I wanted to try my arm at a few different pieces. When the space marines got their recent release, it occurred to me that I hadn’t actually painted a tactical squad since the days of 2nd Edition. This needed to be rectified. And I’ve got a Captain done too (will show him off soon) and a Scout Squad ordered.
I would like to say that the Tactical Squad sprues are amazing. So many options, easier to put together than previous kits (particularly the arms/bolters) and its great that a unit as basic as the humble Space Marine tactical squad has been given such a kit.
Tactically, I’ve gone with the Heavy Bolter and Flamer combo. The Mortifactors are an Ultramarine Successor and so their chapter tactics seem to lend themselves to tactical squads that can pour out as much firepower as possible (rerolling all those misses for one turn could be amazing at rapid fire range). Also, I’m saving the missile launcher that comes with this kit for my very AA devestator squad.
I’ll talk more about the fluff in a later post, but wanted to share this with you as the first post. Onwards and upwards!
