Too long without posting! Sorry about that. Hopefully, a slightly more regular schedule will resume shortly. Anyway, in the meantime, here’s a shot of my slowly growing Slaaneshi Dark Mechanicum cult, with two new cultists, fresh off the painting production line. Also, as the name ‘Slaaneshi Dark Mechanicum Cult’ is a bit of a mouthful, I’m just calling them ‘Sex Machine’. It’s got a ring to it, I think.
This was exactly the sort of project I needed right about now. As mentioned in my last post, I’ve not had too much free time and I’ve not been in the mood to paint a squad of anything lately. Ok, so I guess two makes a squad, but it’s the smallest kind of squad so that makes it ok. And as much as I love Mephiston Red, a wee break from the Blood Angels was just what the doctor ordered.
So what’s the story behind ‘Sex Machine’? Well, these two cultists are the latest pledges to the Magos who has promised to one day make them one with the twisted machine spirits that are pledged to She Who Thirsts. They’ve received no augmentation next, but have been introduced into the cult and some minor aspects of the Dark Mech. The guy above is having gasses, produced by Slaanesh-blessed machines pumped into his lungs. The other is learning to fight with a shock-stick, powered by a Dark Mech/Slaanesh powered battery. One day they will be so much more, but for now, they must survive off the meagre morsels that the Magos is willing to give them.
I used quite a few kits to build these, but the majority of the part used came from the Electro Priests and Helstriders kits. And they’re painted very much with a Blanchitsu aesthetic (at least hopefully that’s what it looks like). Eventually, I want to have a nice little warband I can use in games of INQ28/Inquisimunda and this is a nice start. A few more characters, and maybe some sort of big monster, and they’ll be good to go, but I’m in no rush. They’re a fun project to work on, but I’ve got plenty of Blood Angels still to do.
The robes were the most fun part to paint – lots of subtle purple shades and plenty of weathering. Great fun. The skin was quite stressful to paint and hopefully it fits the style I was going to, and the plasma pistol too – I didn’t want it glowing, but I wanted it to give some colour to break things up. Overall though, painting these chaps was a great deal of fun, and that’s what this project is to me. Good fun.
I trust you’re having fun with your projects too, and until I have something else to share with you, enjoy your hobby time. From me and the Sex Machine, Onwards!
Awesome man!
Very cool. I like the paint job with the muted purple.
They are looking well. Slow burn army builds can really help add character.
They look great and I like that you have a bit of back story for them. The colors work really well on them too, the purple is just enough to add interest without being colorful.
